The Weir Group plc is a FTSE 250 global business, employing more than 14,000 people in 70 countries around the World. As part of our HR transformation programme we made the decision to implement Workday across all countries over two phases, with initial go live in the summer of 2020.
Early on in our project planning, we identified a requirement for test resources to manage testing and support our teams in test execution. We needed to achieve a high quality and cost-effective solution and without Workday experience and tools internally we looked to the contractor market and external consultancies.
WdPro provided us with a proposal that met these two objectives, firstly by supporting us to develop an overall test strategy and then delivering a team of expert test resources working collaboratively and independently between our internal programme team and our implementation partner.
The proposal’s overall cost for a flexible team of 4 resources (1 test manager 2 analysts and with oversight from a test principal came in with a budget about the same as hiring two contract test leads. This was achieved because the resourcing profile enabled the ramping up of dedicated test lead and analysis effort in key testing phases and ramping down when less effort was required.
The experience in the wdPro team meant that various testing tools required such as JIRA and test plans, training materials, reports, scenario templates and analysis tools were all provided and customised to suit the programme.
The result has seen a truly flexible testing team that has been able to react to challenges as they arise, including COVID-19, provide expert guidance to the team and ensure that our testing stays on track. We have a solution that delivers more value against our budget and removes the risk of relying on one or two key individual contractors.
